Admission Process | Master of Science of Athletic Training

The Master of Science of Athletic Training program admits qualified students regardless of race, color, creed, gender, age, sexual orientation, national or ethnic origin, or disability that does not interfere with the performance of professional practice as provided by law.

All MSAT applicants are required to apply for using the Carroll University application. To be considered for admission, applicants must meet GPA requirements as well as successful completion of required MSAT prerequisite courses. Application Process

STEP 1: Submit the Graduate Studies Application

STEP 2: Complete and submit the following within the application status portal after submission of your application:

  1. Personal Statement - Why you are choosing to pursue a career in athletic training?
  2. Resume
  3. Two Professional References - Not required for direct admission applicants. A submission link will be sent to your reference once you enter contact information within your application.
  4. 25 hours of Athletic Training Observation - Must be completed with a licensed/certified athletic trainer and completed within 2 years of application submission. Appropriate documentation must be provided (see Clinical Experience Hours Documentation form).
  5. Official Post-Secondary Transcripts - From all institutions attended
    • Official transcripts must be sent from the institution to gradinfo@iin3d.com or mailed to:

Direct Admission students applying for progression must submit all application materials no later than February 1.

Academic Requirements

Minimum Requirements for All Applicants

  • A cumulative and preprofessional GPA of 3.0 or higher is recommended for admission
  • Students entering the MSAT program through the 3+2 Direct Admission process are guaranteed transition to the MSAT professional program if they earn both a 3.0 cumulative and a 3.0 prerequisite GPA and complete all enrollment criteria noted below.
  • Students with a cumulative and pre-professional GPA of 2.75-2.99 will be considered for admission

Pre-Professional Coursework

  • Anatomy and Physiology I and II w/labs (ANP130/140)
  • Chemistry I w/lab (CHE101 or CHE109)
  • Physics I w/lab (PHY101 or PHY203)
  • Introductory Psychology (PSY101)
  • Statistics (CMP112 or CMP114)not included in the preprofessional GPA
  • Chemistry II w/lab (CHE102 or CHE110) - recommended and not required
  • Physics II w/lab (PHY102 or PHY204) - recommended and not required
  • Exercise Physiology (ESC280) - recommended and not required for the Fall 2025 start, but will be required for those starting in Fall 2026 and after. 

Letter grades of “C” or better are required in all pre-professional courses.

All requirements must be fulfilled prior to beginning coursework in the MSAT. All pre-professional coursework must have been completed within the past 7 years.
